Stephen Edwards is a farmer's son who decided to make furniture instead of following the family tradition. He now runs a small furniture making company called The Four Poster Bed Company, supplying beds to customers all over the world. His father, who retired from his 220 acre farm some years ago, started collecting vintage tractors, and Stephen joined in, taking the odd one to local shows.
Stephen now has several vintage tractors that are in show condition, and is happy to sell them to other vintage tractor enthusiasts, and use the money to buy different tractors for showing the following year. This will give a variety of vintage tractors for each year, making it more interesting than showing the same one all the time. Varying the vintage tractors will also help them build up wider knowledge, whilst showing one would be quite limiting. He finds it very interesting talking to the older generation about farming from a bygone era and showing different classic tractors each year will encourage more of these fascinating stories. Living on a small holding, with seven acres of land, also allows his kids to have a drive round on a sunny Sunday afternoon.
Classic Vintage Tractors is more of a hobby than a commercial enterprise, allowing him to have a bit of fun with farm machinery, without the pressure of farming in the unpredictable British climate.
The intention of the website is also to build up information for a wide range of tractors and the history that goes with them, so that enthusiasts and collectors can use it for reference.
Useful vintage tractor and farm machinery books will be listed, as well as interesting links for vintage tractors, classic tractors, new and used parts and spares etc. If readers have any suggestions for useful links, reference books and so on, then please let us know so that we can add them. We would also like people to email information and pictures so that it can be added to the site for other people to read.
